There are many opportunities on the WVU Parkersburg campus. One such organization is Phi Theta Kappa.
Phi Theta Kappa is the only internationally acclaimed honor society serving two-year colleges offering associate degree programs.
PTK seeks to recognize and encourage scholarship among associate degree students. To achieve this, the society developed opportunities for leadership, fellowship, scholarship and service as well as provided an intellectual climate for academic excellence.
To be eligible to join PTK, students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA, have completed 12 hours of 100 level course work and be working towards an associates degree. Part-time students are eligible to join.
PTK also encourages students to be in good moral standing within the community and in their personal lives.
According to student advisor Dianne Davis, students can be as active in the organization as they want.
“We have a five-star program where students can earn their regalia for graduation,” Davis said.
“Students can earn the gold tassel or the gold stole as well as stars to wear with their PTK pin.”
The local chapter on campus is Sigma Omega. They meet on the main campus in the Leadership room behind. The meetings are at 11 a.m. first Monday and third Wednesday of each month.
At the Jackson County campus the meetings are held at 1 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month.
There is an orientation session today, at 11 a.m. in the Leadership room on the main campus and on Oct. 4 at 1:30 p.m. in the commons at the Jackson County campus.
Any student who feels they meet the eligibility requirements and are interested in joining should contact Dianne Davis ([email protected]) Violet Mosser ([email protected]) or Alila Sellers ([email protected]) for more information.
