The office of Student Services is here to help with each facet of the college experience. "The only thing we are here for is to make students successful," Anthony Underwood, Vice President for Student Services, said.
Students who are not familiar with the Student Services office in Room. 1209, or their website on the college home page, can check out all the information that is waiting for them at any time.
The offices of Student Services covers admissions, records and Student Engagement. They also work directly with Student Government when organizing details that involve many students.
With all the financial aid issues, it is helpful to know that appeals are also handled by Student Services. "It is a concern for many students to maintain financial availability. That requires a 2.0 and 70% of credit hours completed," Underwood said.
If students are having trouble with home, stress or abuse, the counseling department is ready to assist. Even if a student just needs someone to talk to and work out their problems, counselor Klettner is ready to listen.
Athletics are another way to expand student experiences and are greatly supported by the Student Services Office. Playing sports not only improves the physical body, but the mind too.
"The average student athlete has a GPA 11% higher than non-athletes, and the men's basketball team is 14% higher," Underwood said.
It is the first season for a fledgling women's basketball team that is coached by Taylor Phillips. She was formerly of Bucknell University and two time WV High School State basketball champ.
"Athletics cost the school nothing. They are completely funded by donations and fund-raising, and all coaches volunteer their own time," Underwood said.
Issues arise and many others things may happen, but students can find the help they need with a visit Student Services located in room 1209.
