Students at WVU Parkersburg can expect to see two major projects starting on the main campus. Two projects which will help to further define WVU Parkersburg as the preeminent WV community college.
While fall and winter are not usually associated with growing seasons that is exactly what will happen at the WVU Parkersburg main campus. Within a few weeks, construction should begin on the Advanced Technical Center (ATC) and the Child Development Center (CDC). Several weeks ago large plywood signs were placed at each of the soon-to-be constructions sites announcing the highly anticipated projects to interested parties.
Work will initially begin on the ATC, which will be located behind the technical wing along the road leading to the Caperton Center. Recently bids were opened at the West Virginia Community and Technical College System (WVCTCS) offices in Charleston, and from that procedure a general contractor was selected for the ATC project.
TEDCO Construction Management, located in Pittsburgh PA, was the low bidder for construction contract for the ATC. TEDCO submitted a winning bid of $3.48 million dollars to the WVCTCS. After a bid review, which usually includes checking of references, licenses, governmental compliance and any pending legal action, TEDCO was awarded a three hundred day contract for the construction of the ATC. The bid was even slightly lower than as projected by the projects consultants, PWWG Architectural.
TEDCO Construction Management has a long resume of commercial, industrial and institutional projects. They have been particularly involved in college and university construction projects across the Mid-Atlantic region. TEDCO has completed several projects at West Virginia University in Morgantown, including a Downtown Student Housing project and the Engineering and Mineral Resources Wing.
The ATC will be housed in a cutting edge building which will the serve as a home for the welding, industrial maintenance and multi-craft technologies programs. The 20,000 square feet brick and glass structure will provide room for a welding lab, an industrial maintenance lab, three classrooms, four faculty offices, a mechanical room and restroom facilities.
TEDCO was also the apparent low bidder for the CDC project. At press time, officials were still working on the review process for that project.
