Most musicians aim to deliver a certain sound of music. While there are a plethora of musical genres today, bands and musicians tend to gravitate towards one or two genres. Tom Weber is a local musician, and he has a wide array of musical tastes.
Weber developed his interest in playing an instrument in fifth grade when he picked up the trumpet, but his main focus is playing the guitar. “I have been playing guitar a little over ten years,’’ he said.

“Admittedly, I don't practice enough. My permanent disclaimer is that I should be much better than I am,” Weber said. He also dabbles in bass guitar, hand percussion, piano and occasionally the drums.
His favorite bands/artists
include
John Lennon, Johnny Cash, Arcade Fire, The Gaslight Anthem, Less than Jake, Streetlight Manifesto, A Perfect Circle, Flogging Molly and Tom Waits.
Weber has multiple musical influences. However, his influences are a bit more personal - his friends. He says he has learned more from a handful of close friends that are great musicians than he has from listening to hundreds of albums.
“Mike Lutz is a good friend of mine, and truly an inspiration to me a song writer. Ryan Greynolds has a great sense of rhythm, and has really helped me learn to improvise and play in a groove. Jake Hays is the meanest, most terrifying guitar player the Mid-Ohio valley doesn’t know they have. He's also the most disciplined and technically precise guitarist I know. Jim Stealey, is
the most creative and expressive drummer I've ever known,’’
Webersaid.Weber doesn’t have any current bands in progress, but would be more opt to start one if the venue selection in Parkersburg expanded.
He plays some open mics here and there, and enjoys amping up the crowd. “I remember I used to say the biggest shame about Parkersburg, was that it was a city full of musicians and no scene. Its awesome that people are putting in the time to make something out of all that potential. Venue selection is the main thing I would improve,’’ he said. He has a few local bands he deems very talented - such as Horseburner, Sons Had Father and Mike Lutz and the Assistance.
Tom is nothing short of musically open-minded, and his views on upcoming and established musicians and their talent clearly displays that trait.
